Context

Diasporas in general play an important role in the development of their countries or even their continents of origin. In addition to family support, they contribute through investment, education and political participation to economic and social development and political progress. The exchange and transfer of knowledge and skills has a key role to play as a vector for the development of human capital, which is essential to ensure sustainable development.
The African diaspora is not left out. The African Skills Week that AfroSkills is organising from 7 to 10 December 2022, is a platform where the Diaspora will be able to actively participate in discussions and make its voice heard on opportunities and solutions to challenges related to education, skills development, technological development and innovation in African countries. It will also be an opportunity for entrepreneurs (from the diaspora) to promote their businesses, participate in the finals of the African Business Ideas Competition and discover business ideas to develop into successful enterprises.
An entire panel is dedicated to the diaspora to discuss the opportunities and challenges of investing on the continent and in their home countries.

Points to discuss

  1. What does the Africa Skills Week represent for the African Diaspora?
  2. What impact can it have on the mobilization of the African diaspora for human capital development in Africa?
  3. What are the opportunities and challenges for the diaspora to advance knowledge and skills strategies in Africa?
  4. What would you advise to the African Diaspora for the African Skills Week?
