Context


  • Are you a student, researcher, or academic staff (lecturer, professor) at a university, research institution or higher educational institution, an entrepreneur or innovator even without a university degree in Africa?
  • Do you have interesting innovative results that can be transformed into commercially viable start-up and thriving businesses?
  • Do you have interesting results that can be turned into a commercially viable startup?
If so, you are highly encouraged to participate to the Africa Business Ideas competition 2022 and stand a chance to win a prize and receive experts support to build your business start-up. AfroSkills organizes the annual business ideas competition to reach out, identify and support innovative and entrepreneurial solutions for Africa by African students, entrepreneurs, and researchers. The competition focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship of fourth industrial revolution. We welcome entrepreneurial and commercially viable solutions that can be developed into spin-off and start-up companies. All fields are concerned: agriculture, agroindustry, renewable energy, water and sanitation, energy transition, real estate, digital technology, mechanics and robotics, oil and gas and mining, art and culture, education and vocational training, recycling, etc. The competition takes place in many stages from selection through qualifiers to the final. During the Africa Skills Week, the finalists will compete for prizes. Promising ideas and projects, even those that did not reach the finals or won prizes will be invited to join AfroSkills Business and Innovation Incubator.

How to participate?

  • As an African student, researcher, academic staff, or entrepreneur in Africa or in the diaspora
  • As a team consisting of individual entrepreneur, students, researcher, or an academic staff. At least one team member should be a student, researcher or academic staff of an African university, vocational training school, or enterprise.
  • Female participation is highly encouraged as individuals or part of teams
  • All fields are concerned: : agriculture, agroindustry, renewable energy, water and sanitation, energy transition, real estate, digital technology, mechanics and robotics, oil and gas and mining, art and culture, recycling, education and vocational training, etc.

Incubation

Candidates with good projects including those who did not reach the final or win prizes, will be invited to join AfroSkills Business Incubator. Promising ideas will be supported to develop viable business models and plans through an incubation process involving coaching and mentoring, training on managing start-ups, support for funding applications and support through the Intellectual property process.

The competition starts with the selection phase soon after the application deadline. Then two or three qualifier phases will follow. The final will take place on 10th December 2022 during the Africa Skills Week
